To Grind or Not To Grind?

Many coffee drinkers love to grind their own coffee beans. There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh ground coffee. Did you ever wonder how coffee beans were ground one hundred years ago?

I recently visited the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum in Jupiter, Fl. The museum and tour were both excellent and the staff was friendly.

On the lighthouse grounds sits the Tindall Pioneer Homestead. George Washington Tindall and his family built the house in 1892 on the Loxahatchee River. The house was moved to the lighthouse grounds in 2007 using heavy equipment. To my delight in the kitchen there was a coffee grinder used at the time.

I was glad to see that even though there wasn't modern plumbing or air conditioning available, pioneers of the day could at least grind a nice cup of coffee.
